Opening the Gates to a New Year, A New Life

Rosh Hashanah Retreat

Wednesday, September 4 – Sunday, September 8, 2013

This Rosh Hashanah, treat yourself to the transformative experience of welcoming in the new year with lively prayer services, deep teachings with Rabbi Trugman and others, immersion in a relaxing wooded venue, tashlich in our stream, community celebrations, and fabulous farm-to-table feasting. Rosh Hashanah is part of our Days of Awesome, which include Yom Kippur and Sukkahfest.

Services

In keeping with the Isabella Freedman tradition of providing transformational prayer experiences for people of all backgrounds, we will offer two concurrent prayer services in separate spaces:

  • Traditional Mechitzah Minyan with Rabbi Avraham Arieh Trugman. Orthodox prayer service. Men and women will sit separately.
  • Experiential Prayer Service with mindful chanting, movement, drumming, and singing. The Reconstructionist Machzor, Kol HaNeshama, will be used. Men and women will sit together.

Activities

Children's Program, engaging lectures and discussions, yoga, meditation, and hikes.

Rabbi Avraham Arieh and Rachel Trugman have thirty-five years of experience in Jewish education. They were a founding family of Moshav Modiim (the Carlebach Moshav) in 1976. From 1988-95, they served as Regional Directors of NCSY in Denver, Colorado. Upon returning to Israel they created Ohr Chadash: New Horizons in Jewish Experience, a dynamic educational program centered in Israel, which has run programs for tens of thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.

Rabbi Trugman Rachel Trugman

Rabbi Trugman has published seven popular books on Jewish spirituality and mysticism and has produced four music discs of original music. Rachel Trugman, along with being an educator, is also a family therapist with a private practice and an artist who has published a coloring book.

The Trugmans have lectured in forty cities world-wide and have run and participated in hundreds of Shabbat programs.

Ohr Chadash: New Horizons in Jewish Experience

Ohr ChadashOhr Chadash is a non-profit educational organization serving English-speaking students enrolled at various universities and other short- and long-term programs in Israel, as well as immigrants and native Israelis. A wide range of programming is offered in an open, joyous, non-coercive and spiritual atmosphere, where participants are able to explore Judaism at their own pace. Programs include classes, lunch and learn, concerts, Shabbatons, home hospitality, leadership training, seminars, tours, counseling, and social action projects. Ohr Chadash provides a home away from home for students and maintain strong relationships for years to come. Through its educational networking—website, blog, twitter, facebook, you-tube, and e-mail—Ohr Chadash reaches tens of thousands of people on a regular basis. Since 2001, Ohr Chadash has run and participated in events and programs in 40 cities throughout the world.
