Jewish Multiracial Network

Eleventh Annual Retreat

June 6-8, 2008

Join dozens of other Jewish multiracial families and Jews of Color of all ages for an inclusive Shabbat experience that will celebrate the diversity of our community. The weekend includes exciting adult discussions and workshops, youth and teen programming, childcare, multi-generational family programming and time to relax and enjoy all that the Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center and JMN have to offer.

Participants come for transformative experiences, a diverse and welcoming community, or simply to have fun and meet people in a beautiful natural setting. Just before we traditionally celebrate receiving Torah on Shavuous (starting on the 8th at sundown), let's celebrate the mixed multitude who received — and continue to receive — all the legacies of the Jewish people!

Last year's retreat sold out, so please register early!

Artist-in-Residence

We are pleased to announce that we will be joined by artist Maya Escobar, who will be enriching both adult and children's programming this year with opportunities for artistic expression, and using art as "text" to examine and discuss.

Maya Escobar is a Guatemalan Jewish interdisciplinary artist and educator, and a recent graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received a BFA with an emphasis in Art Education. She has taught, performed and exhibited work in Spain, Guatemala, Puerto Rico and the United States. Currently, Escobar is pursuing her MFA at Washington University in St. Louis.

To learn more about Maya or join an on-line discussion she's launched on "Who is a Jew?" (prompted in part by a random visitor to her website asking, Is Maya Escobar really Jewish? Clearly not someone familiar with JMN!), please visit her website: MayaEscobar.com.
